Self-Esteem Definition
YOUR subjective evaluation of your personal worth or value. It encompasses beliefs about yourself such as, “I am unloved” or “I am worthy”. It also includes emotional states like triumph, despair, pride, and shame. Essentially, it is how much you appreciate and like yourself regardless of the circumstances.
3 Types of Self-Esteem
First, you can have an inflated self-esteem where your sense of self-love comes across as entitled and thinking you are better than everyone else. This results in a very closed-minded way of thinking negatively affecting the person’s ability to listen and learn from other people and from their own mistakes.
Second, you can have a low self-esteem whereby you feel less than other people, below average, and generally do not trust yourself. People with low self-worth typically have poor relationships, and may dabble in addictions, depression, and anxiety at different times in their lives. They fear being judged by other people and often berate themselves to beat people to it.
Last, you can have high self-esteem usually stemming from the love and acceptance you show yourself. People with high self-worth believe in and trust themselves and have an air of confidence about them. High self-esteem comes with a readiness to learn, ability to be flexible, and a willingness to pleasantly listen.
